Spectacular Spider-Man No More

26 episodes. Two seasons. The Spectacular Spider-Man, the best animated version of Spider-Man has officially been canceled. I'd actually read the news on this last week and like many of you, I was angry and disappointed. This show was Batman: The Animated Series for Spider-Man fans. It was just that good and could have easily gone up to 65 episodes or more like series producer Greg Weisman had planned.

"But, Reg, we're getting an Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon in 2011!"

And because said cartoon is coming, this means the death of Spectacular. Why create another Spidey show so soon when they already had a the best Spidey show ever and an amazing crew handling said show? Does not compute.

At any rate, I'd love for Spectacular to be continued somehow. If not in animation, perhaps in comic form. I'd love for Marvel to just give Greg a comic to let him continue his work but, but it doesn't seem likely. Speaking of Greg, he really seems to be a "take it on the chin" kinda guy. Truly, he's one of the best in the business and just an all around great guy.

Ultimate Spider-Man will have to be one incredible show because Spectacular pretty much raised the bar for Spidey in animation. Lots of fans are already ready to bear their fangs at Ultimate, and it's not hard to see why. I mean, this show did kill off Spectacular and if a whole new crew is involved (which seems to be the case way things are going) then Ultimate could end up joing Spider-Man Unlimited as one of the most forgettable Spidey shows. I suppose we'll have to see how things pan out.

I'll be picking up the season two DVD of Spectacular whenever it comes out and I'll try to give Ultimate a chance.

R.I.P, Spectacular Spider-Man. I guess only the good really do die young.

I heard it's an "USM Team-Up", so from Spider-Man's equivalent of B:TAS that is cut off too soon, to Spider-Man's equal of BTB&TB, unless it has serious stories like the comics do, and we have Peter & his supporting cast

Yeah, you heard right. Batman: The Brave and the Bold turned out to be a solid show. I guess it helped that it has great talent behind it. If USM can wind up in a similar boat, then things could really look up for the show. Still, Disney, Marvel or whatever suits are in charge really screwed up by killing Spectacular.

Super Hero Secret IDs & Their Friends

I've always felt Clark Kent has had one of the poorest disguises of all time for a secret Identity. All he does is straight up his "S" curl so it isn't visible and put on some glasses. Well, also depending on the era, Clark is either goes out of his way to be a bumbling idiot so people don't suspect he's an alien from another world, or here's the non-clumsy modern version. Personally, I like both, but if Lois is indeed a star reporter then she'd have to see through that disguise. Let's be realistic here. No one is that clumsy unless they are trying to be. The Green Goblin has often been touted as Spider-Man's deadliest foe. He is what the Joker is to Batman. I wonder if Stan knew back when Gobby first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #14 that the Goblin would become the menace that he is to Spidey today. Marvel Wants to Hear From YOU!

In the letter page of Amazing Spider-Man #565, Spidey editor Steve Wacker filled the page with nothing but negative letters from readers that hate Brand New Day. Who says Marvel doesn't listen to the fans? And what's more, Mr. Wacker has even asked us to write in and tell them how we feel. Can you believe that? It takes class to run nothing but angry letters and a couple of those to the right are pretty nasty. My mother actually suggested I write to the editor and state my feelings on the molestation of Spider-Man in ASM. I'd been meaning to write them, but I just never sat down to do so. With the editor of the Spidey books kindly saying that the letter's page is "the place to vent," I think the time has finally come for me to express myself. I don't know if it will get printed since I've stopped reading ASM, but if they take my letter and many others that are outraged by BND to heart, then that's all that matters.
