Latest DVD Buys

I'm not the biggest fan of fye, but they occasionally mange to have some pretty good deals doing on. Case in point, the two DVDs I bought home from them this week - Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time, and Animaniacs Vol. 3.

It astounds me how foolish Disney continues to be with it's properties. Kim Possible, one of the greatest western shows ever, and one of the best things that has ever had the Disney name attached to it, STILL has no season DVD sets in America. If you want your Kim fix, you either have to watch Toon Disney (or whatever the channel is called these days) or watch the episodes on YouTube. To this day, only a handful of episodes and both movies, the aforementioned Sitch in Time, and So the Drama are on DVD in the west. Regardless, it's nice to finally own A Sitch in Time. I'm hoping to get So the Drama as well. For now, I'm not holding my breath for season DVD sets.

Animanicas was a bit of a successor to Tiny Toon Adventures. I always liked Tiny Toons better, but I can't say Animaniacs isn't raw deal. The show had witty, clever writing that was fun for both kids and adults, the later half of the audience that may very well have gotten the best out of the show. This show was pretty famous for sneaking things past the censors. Some of it was subtle, but a lot of it was so blatantly obvious that you have to wonder if S&P ever saw the show or they were just asleep at the wheel. 

Anyhoo, Animanicas Vol. 3 is actually the first DVD of the series that I own. For some strange reason, it was on sale for $14.99 while other volumes were higher. But Animaniacs is the kinda show that you don't need to watch in order to appreciate it. Outside of the first episode, you can come into the series at any point and enjoy it. In the words of Yako, "Good night, everybody!"

I'm not a big fan of "Kim Possible", I find "American Dragon" to be a much better show cause I'm tired of the "Secret Super Spy" junk, especially since the organizations in thee shows are very easy to know what they do in the paper or through the internet, and all they do is waste valuable tax money on useless crap operations, KP is a good show, but not something I follow

Animaniacs is a truly good choice

Composer Shout Out: Yuji Ohno

For my money, one of the best composers in the music business would have to be Yuji Ohno. This guys is mostly known for his work on just about anything that has to do with Lupin III. After the last few weeks, it's hard for me not to think of Ohno's compositions when Lupin comes to mind. (I've been listening to his various albums to get my jazz fix.) Ohno's works are primarily jazz-inspired and even some of his earliest efforts on Lupin music in the '70s is still considered extraordinary. Not only has he covered music for the various Lupin series and movies, he's also done music for all three PS2 Lupin games. The man is also an accomplished musical genius even when he isn't working on music for Lupin. Tokyo City Lights is a jazz masterpiece. R.I.P Mickey Mouse

In case you haven't heard , Wayne Allwine, the voice actor of Mickey Mouse passed away at the age of 62. He had been voice the world's most famous mouse since 1977. The original voice actor for Mickey was Walt Disney himself. Allwine's imitation of Disney's voice was spot on. Most of the the Mickey Mouse cartoons I've seen were voiced by Allwine. 'Tis a sad day in cartoon history. R.I.P, Wayne Allwine.

Spectacular Art of Andie Tong

Andie Tong is the regular artist of the Spectacular Spider-Man's UK comic book. Now I haven't read any of the issues, but I did come across his deviant art page last night, which feature some of the pages from what looks to be a superb comic. I love all the quirky posses Andie draws Spidey in. He also does a terrific job on the webbing and the half-mask. I can take big or small eyes on a Spider-Man mask, but I think Andie gets the right combo. The eyes aren't too big and they aren't too small. Andie also draws a very excellent Green Goblin. It'd be sweet if he could do the art for some of the Spider books in the states. James Offredi does the coloring on Andie's artwork. Needless to say, James does an amazing job, making Andie's already gorgeous art look even better. I know its only artwork and I haven't read any of these issues, but from what I've seen, it looks like the stories in the Spectacular Spider-Man UK book are a heck of a lot more interes...
