In the dubbed version of Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta once said to Bulma "Every time you open your mouth, you prove you're an idiot." The more Marvel talks about Spider-Man, the more the words ring ever so true.
George Berryman of the Crawl Space forums caught Joe Quesada and Dan Buckley making fools of themselves and I'd like to represent it here in my blog. From CBR's SDCC:

Did Buckely actually get those words out with a straight face? Did he even read the crappy story? Ugh, NEXT!
Quesada said, "Go back and read 'One More Day,' and tell me who made the deal? Peter didn't make the deal. It's Mary Jane who makes the deal. This is a story we had to do to get Peter to a particular place. There's more to be told about it. The idea of a Faustian pact, this is a classic part of literature. Peter has always found himself in situations where he thinks he's making the right decision, and it's turned out to be the wrong one. 80 percent of the books I signed in San Diego were 'Brand New Day' and 'One More Day.' If anything, it brings up a good conversation. Just like when a kid comes home and says he beat up his friend in school because that's what Spider-Man does. It's a morality play. Sometimes, the bad guy wins. It's a matter of how you wanna perceive the story."

Actually, I don't need to go back and read part 4 of OMD. That entire scene is forever etched into my brain as I'm sure it is many a Spider-Man fan. Joe Q is trying to place the blame on MJ. Well it takes two to tango and the deal couldn't be done unless Peter agreed to it, which he did. Joe, stop trying to keep Peter from looking like a scumbag. Its much too late for that.

Honestly, the only way I could see out of this, despite the cluster**** it'd still create, is to have the entire storyline of OMD revealed to be what would happen if Pete accepted Mephisto's deal, perhaps revealed to him by Dr. Strange or someone else.
The main problem with that is Marvel tying BND with the other Marvel titles going out, but that mess-up pales in comparison to what was done already.
